Dr. Carlos moves on to his next adventure

As the academic year comes to an end, several staff members prepare to leave or have already departed. Hence, The Woodstocker caught up with some of them to dig into their thoughts and future endeavors.

Carlos Izquierdo, Spanish as well as Film and Media teacher, fondly known as “don” Carlos by his students, is one of the many teachers who will not be coming back to school this fall.

Many of his students feel that this nickname describes his persona as a teacher, and although he never fails to point out how some may perceive the nickname as negative or derogatory, he always laughs when he here it.

That’s the kind of teacher Dr. Carlos is. He has a sense of humor but is also determined to embody the ideas of being respectful and appropriate. We at Woodstock don’t always follow these ideas, but he loves to preach about them.  He believes that “it’s important you know what you’re saying [and] it’s [not] just nonsense” all the time.

Dr. Carlos came to Mussoorie almost two years ago seeking a break and change from the noise and pollution of his former residence in Delhi.

“It was really nice to be able to walk to work for a change,” he said while describing how peaceful walking to school each morning felt.

He also enjoyed being an advisor to the Class of 2022, a group he speaks fondly of, saying it was “always a pleasure to work with all of them as an advisor and teacher.”

Dr. Carlos enjoyed his time interacting with students and teachers in our community just as much as they enjoyed their time with him, even outside classes.

However, he felt that he had reached a crossroads in his life. The decision was far from easy for him, but he received the opportunity to pursue an experience he’s always wanted to. Dr. Carlos has found his future in Bangkok, Thailand.

“Bangkok is [a] bustling [city] and is somewhere I’ve always been an admirer of,” Mr. Carlos said.
